PROJECT 12
Ellen Stewart, founder and artistic director of the New York theatre La Mama, visited Zagreb in September 2008, as a special guest of the World Theatre Festival where she was rewarded with the Medal of the City of Zagreb. Then and there the idea for Project 12 was born, the idea which would enable young artists to develop and then present their ideas to an audience. Ellen Stewart came to Zagreb on 29th of March to help them in their last rehearsals and to show them a part of her theatre world. She came with her assistant Kaori Fujiyabu and two musicians from La Mama – Yukio Tsuji i Heather Paauwe – who created the music for the projects.
Ana Vilenica, Irena Vitaljic, Dino Pesut and Ivan Nezic, together with their art groups, and under the leadership of Ellen Stewart, formed their ideas into concrete performances. The aim of the project was to eliminate borders between different cultures and to create a new relationship and understanding between the artists and the audience.
Trying to find new ways of expression, artist used motion, music, dance and sound. Project 12 enables exchange of experience between artists and it is a valuable contribution to our cultural collaboration.
